Cross-Country Skiing and Snowshoeing

Did you know there are cross-country skiing and snowshoeing trails right here in town? The Stony Plain Golf Course opens during the cold months for residents to enjoy groomed trails any day of the week. You can access the trails at Fairway Drive any time of day. If you’re snowshoeing, remember to keep to the side of the groomed trails to avoid damaging the path for skiers.

Walking

Keep it simple – go out for a walk! Whether you prefer walking through downtown or finding a nice quiet trail, there are lots of options for walking around Stony Plain. Here are a few of our favourites:

  • Dog Rump Creek
  • Willow Park Natural Area
  • Rotary Park
  • Whispering Waters Park
  • Main Street

If you have a furry friend, you will be happy to know the Umbach Off-leash Dog Park is open all year round. It’s a great place for both you and your dog to get some steps in during the winter. There are many great places to go for a stroll around town. You can check out the full trail map here and get ready to do some winter exploring!

Grab your skates or skis or snowshoes or even just a good pair of boots and go explore the town! The cold air doesn’t have to stop you from staying active and enjoying the outdoors. Be sure to check the posted schedules before making any plans, and don’t forget to pack some mittens.
